If you want a program for capturing images that works well on older systems, try Free Kapture. As you should have worked out by now, Free Kapture is a free image capture application, that works on any Windows platform. Its major advantage is that it is compatible with TWAIN (allegedly meaning Technology Without An Interesting Name) technology and devices.

Through the TWAIN controller, Free Kapture can scan, save and print your favourite images (graphic drawings, digital photos, etc). You have a preview area where you can view the scanned image along with details about it’s height and width values. You can also select to display the image in its original size or have it fit in the preview screen.

All the images captured with Free Kapture are saved in compressed JPG or lossless BMP format, chosen by the user. You can also save in GIF format and optimize those JPEG files. It comes complete with a Help file and Setup (install/uninstall) program. This capturing program is very easy to download, install and then use, through its friendly and intuitive user interface. You don't need any technical experience at all to get the most out of it.
